En saga om chocolat.. (2024)
en saga om chocolat.. explores identity, heritage, and globalisation through chocolate as both material and symbol. The commissioned work is based on 3D scans of the artist’s own body, inspired by wooden sculptures from Côte d'Ivoire and Dalarna. These sculptures, made primarily from cocoa, probe associations with the exoticisation, sexualisation, and historical fascination with the Black body.
The work highlights themes such as export and import, the power of scent to evoke memory, and how humor and desire influence perception. It also examines the language around Blackness in Sweden—what words we use, what we borrow, and how we talk about race without directly mentioning it. At its core, it is a story about the artist’s dual heritage from Côte d'Ivoire, the world's largest cocoa producer, and Sweden, where chocolate is disconnected from its production origins and yet forms a strong part of the national identity.
